Hernando Laverde has been growing coffee for more than 40 years. Thirteen years ago, already in his late 50s, he used his life savings to purchase a farm 'La Guirnalda.' Recently he has been working with La Palma y El Tucán Neighbors' Program, an initiative that assists coffee farmers to improve and regenerate the soil. Beds populated with worms known for their composting efficiency are used to break down the farm's organic waste, producing high quality compost for the coffee plantation.
